Flea control
Q: We have a mix primarily lab dog that is allergic to fleas. he has a flea problem, and we went on vacation and we now have fleas all through the house. can you tell me a good product for the dog and something to use to control the flea problem in the house?
A: The control for fleas is a three prong attack. you need to treat the outside environment, your household, and then a product for your pet. capstar will kill the fleas that are currently on your lab within a couple of hours. you need to apply frontline plus monthly to control the fleas on your pet. we recommend using a fogger indoors following the instructions on the label, and spraying or using a granular product for out doors.
Shop for: capstar, frontline plus, frontline

Which one is better?
Q: I have given interceptor as heartworm medicine to my dog and realize that sentinel is more expensive. should i change it to "sentinel"? and what is difference between two medicine? ps. i use frontline plus as a flea medicine. ( is it right choice for my dog?) thanks in advance
A: Sentinel and interceptor have the same heartworm preventative, the difference being that sentinel controls fleas by breaking their life cycle.|if you are getting proper flea contril with the use of the frontline plus i would just continue with the interceptor.
Shop for: sentinel, interceptor, frontline plus

Male dog with crom disease
Q: My pug has big open sores , my vet is testing him for cromes disease what in the world is that? thankyou
A: I have not heard of this. perhaps typo or misspelling on yoru part. crohns disease is an intestinal disease seen in people and variation in dogs causing intestinal signs like diarrhea

Flea
Q: We have a beagle who has never had fleas before. we can not get her into our vet until tomorrow. is there something i can bath her in now to give her some relief or hopefully get rid of them for her. this only the second day but the poor little dog is miserable. they suggested giving her a teaspoon of benadryl 3 times a day but that does not seem to be dong much for her. thank you.
A: The benadryl will help with the itching. if you can get some avon skin so soft, dilute 3 tablespoonsful in a gallon of water, and apply it in a spray bottle.|when you have time, we sell all of the flea and tick products available from veterinarians at guaranteed savings.
Shop for: tick

Fleas
Q: Do i need a prescription for that flea medication you give your dog and it sorta acts like flea birthcontrol until they all die off i think it's called centinol and is there anything guarenteed to work to get rid of them without a prescription? there isn't a vet in my town and i don't travel with my pets.
A: You do need a prescription for this combination heartworm and flea medicine known as sentinel
Shop for: sentinel

Severe skin problem
Q: I have a black german sheperd that will not stop scratching. she dug at her skin with her teeth that she caused sores and has pulled some of her hair out. i am taking her to the vet tomorrow, but am very concerned on how they intend to treat her. i have seen this skin irritation before on another dog, but not to this extent. i have used rimadyl before and it seems to me that vets just want to use that for everything. how can i be sure that i am getting a thorough visit with my dog and the best service. i have been very unhappy with several vets and their push on food, medicines, and other products that they can make money off of. please help.
A: Sounds like skin allergies in this breed either inhalent and/or food alleriges but vet visit should do skin scrape to make sure not mites. rimadyl is not drug to use in allergies but antihistamines and /or low dose cortisone is how most vets treat it. consider good anti itch shampoo like corticare from 1800petmeds as well as giving oral supplements for allergies such as prozyme and brite coat xs which can help skin allergies but must be used long term for results. also consider change in diet to natural diet and i find this breed does well on diet known as solid gold hund de flaken food
Shop for: rimadyl, antihistamine, 1800petmeds, prozyme

Dog has colitis
Q: My dog has colitis and i am looking for sulfasalazine 500mg. how good is this medication for colitis
A: Sulfasalazine is used for colitis. we don't stock the item but it is commony available at your local pharmacy.

Behavior
Q: We have an austrailian kelpie and a black mouth cur dog. we adopted the kelpie when she was 7 weeks old and adopted the black mouth cur about 4 months after the kelpie. we were told he was about a year old. our problem is that the kelpie is very aggressive and jealous of the other dog. she immediately starts attacking and biting him anywhere she can on his body. he does nothing to start this behavior. it seems to be worse whenever one of us goes outside to spend time with them. they are both wonderful dogs as far as affection towards us but the kelpie just can't stand buddy getting any attention at all. we did not know just how high strung the kelpie was until researching her breed and realized we had a very high energy dog and wanted to help her out by getting her a companion dog. he definitely helps her use up her energy but not always in a positive way. our dogs stay outside unless the weather is bad and we bring them in. can you please help us stop this bad behavior in the kelpie. thank you.
A: Difficult to answer in brief space here. you need to consult with a behavioral veterinary specialist who will review behavior modification techniques with you in order to help with unwanted behaviors. takes time and patience
