PugQ: You stated in my last response that the elongated palate will not be caused by the stenotic nares, is this correct? if so how can this palate become elongated and how can a vet tell if it is? also if my dog needs surgery for the stenotic nares is this a rough surgery for puppys? and how long should i wait/what age? thank you A: Each puppy is different upon waitng until what age; it would depend upon how difficult it is or how noisy it is for him to breathe. palate becomes elongated as a genetic anomaly in this breed, but can occur at same time as stenotic nares as often dogs of this breed can have both at same time, but one is not caused by other. vet needs to sedate dog and look down throat with larygnoscope to diagnose
Male dog with crom diseaseQ: My pug has big open sores , my vet is testing him for cromes disease what in the world is that? thankyou A: I have not heard of this. perhaps typo or misspelling on yoru part. crohns disease is an intestinal disease seen in people and variation in dogs causing intestinal signs like diarrhea
Demodex mitesQ: My dog, choco (chow chow) is about 3 years old now. we got him from a shelter. he has had recurring demodex mites for the last year and we can't seem to get rid of them. we tried a new vet and they gave us mitoban- a dip which our groomer says is very toxic. i'm not sure whether i want to use it on our dog, especially since we have a 16 month old baby in our house right now. thanks, pam A: Mitaban is effective and with proper handling is safe. you should use rubber gloves when applying it and do not towel dry, allow to air dry. you should try to avoid contact between your baby and the dog until completely dry, perhaps a day.
