Demodex mitesQ: My dog, choco (chow chow) is about 3 years old now. we got him from a shelter. he has had recurring demodex mites for the last year and we can't seem to get rid of them. we tried a new vet and they gave us mitoban- a dip which our groomer says is very toxic. i'm not sure whether i want to use it on our dog, especially since we have a 16 month old baby in our house right now. thanks, pam A: Mitaban is effective and with proper handling is safe. you should use rubber gloves when applying it and do not towel dry, allow to air dry. you should try to avoid contact between your baby and the dog until completely dry, perhaps a day.
New puppyQ: I have a minature daschund. he is 1 year old and has always been a happy little dog, but about a week ago i got a 6 week old pug. the daschund has completely stopped eating and drinking, will ignore the puppy when not growling at him. this has been going on for week and i am beginning to get worried for the older dog. they are both male and i don't know if this has anything to do with male domiance or if it is just pure jealousy. i have put honey on the older dogs gums and administered milk to him through a straw. what can i do? A: I would take to vet for assessment
Which product is best?Q: I have recently moved to an area of california that has many deer ticks and mosquitos.my dog {who is 70lbs plus} is an outside pet and is going crazy with itching and scratching. i have used frontline in the past which was very successful. but that was in an more suburban area. i also have an inside cat who is in need of a flea treatment, also. which products would you recommend for both animals? A: For cat inside i would only recommend mild product like oral program which would sterilize any adult fleas that happen to get on him. but if you treat dog with good product for adult fleas and larvae that kills them such as frontline plus that is best you could do. you should not use advantix with cat in house and i am not big fan of revolution which would be your other choice
Shop for: frontline, tick, advantix, frontline plus
Dogs paws and padsQ: I have an american pit bull terrier. i was curious , it seems whenever the pads of his feet come in to contact with any part of my our skin , it doesnt scratch us but leaves the area feeling very itchy. is that normal? he does get several walks a day outside , in the grass and on the pavement. A: Some people can actually have a mild contact allergy to pet fur, etc.
